Tea, Glitter & Your Studio's Signature Element

Back when I was dragged to my first ever indoor cycling class (SoulCycle Upper West Side NYC rear lobby in 2007) I was working at a neighborhood family-owned business called Alice's Tea Cup.

It was a stressful, albeit rewarding, hospitality experience for me;

high-volume (150+ seated customers per day in a 25ish seat restaurant) and

mid-range in per-person spend (equivalent of approximately USD $25-$30 in today's currency, per person per visit)….

…but most important of all:

every customer needed to feel special during their visit & there were many regulars with many 'quirks' which we accommodated (within reason) and also

we needed to get folks seated, ordered, eat & drink, have a great time…but get them out the door within a lean period of time so the table could be re-sat due to a 1-2 hour average wait and also…

…every young customer was encouraged to borrow and wear glittery fairy wings sold in the restaurant's storefront & be dusted with glitter & told to make a wish, facilitated by one of the front desk staff before sitting for tea.

That whimsical gesture with glitter became as signature to Alice's Tea Cup as the pumpkin scone; made for kids, embraced by all-ages.

Often times…its not the food (or the class format[s] we offer), but the magical moments we cultivate in our spaces which sit alongside what we sell.

As always, click reply & let me know what “fairy wings & glitter” element you've embraced at your space.

Have a great rest of your week!
